From working alongside Dita Von Teese, and touring the world as a solo artist Zelia has established herself as Australia’s most in demand showgirl.

I’ve just seen you’ve came back from London and have been working on the show Yummy, and you are about to start again this month in Melbourne – Yummy Deluxe.
Sounds so much fun, can you tell us about this show and any hints on what fans expect to see from you, and how can people get tickets for this show.

Yummy is a force of nature now, it’s an incredibly strong, culturally relevant and very important part of the cabaret world. It’s a drag show essentially but celebrates all gender, demographics and practice within.

Audiences can expect incredible fashion and aesthetics along with Australia’s most prominent artists in Drag, Contemporary Dance, Circus, Burlesque and more.
We are opening this Thursday the 12th @ Trades Hall Melbourne for Melbourne Fringe. You can grab your tickets via the melbourne fringe Website and type in “Yummy Deluxe”.

How did you get into performing your such a crazy awesome dancer, I suspect you worked really hard and an interesting question if you could go back in time to your younger self, what encouraging words would you say to you ?
.
My mum told me I was literally dancing before I’d even come out of the womb……so go figure. Lots and lots of hard work have gone into my practice but never have I found it tedious because I love it so much, it does still get very hard at times and I have to focus on mental health, my body and my needs as a top priority.

If I could say a few things to my younger self it would be to be you at all times, don’t hold back and that you can literally do anything. I think I really suffered from low self esteem as a younger woman and grew up thinking I was lesser in a lot of ways, a very common train of thought for many. It really takes courage and dedication to eliminate these thoughts and i’m still working on that always.

You have toured everywhere and your a highly sought after artist, including recently working with the Dita Von Teese tour, in which you played some amazing famous venues around the world, and of course working with the Queen herself and other fab artists.
Must have been incredible, can you give us a glimpse into what that tour or a day of that tour was like.
.
Touring has become a totally normal way of life for me now, in which in reality it’s really anything but normal and grounding.
But i’m incredibly adaptive and I think that’s how i manage it all. Touring with Dita has been an incredible experience for many reasons. The main reasons I feel it’s so important is that its keeping burlesque under the radar and creating opportunity for burlesque to play in some of the biggest and most beautiful theatres in the world.

I take from it a connection with Dita and the production that feels like family and the feeling of being part of a legacy. The feeling is all encompassing in that way and I love how inspiring that is.

You are also a teacher and a choreographer, this must be fun, what do you teach and what have you choreographed, what can people do if they want to learn classes with you.
.
I love to choreograph and teach when I have the space and time. I teach a range of workshops I’ve created such as – Dance & Burlesque Through the Ages (A historical and physical walk through time lines and inspo) , Blues Burlesque (My personal style mash ups of old school and new) and I also teach a bunch of dance styles, act development, dance with props, purpose and more…
I’ve choreographed for the likes of Clairy Browne for her Album “Pool” and Dita von Teese’s Newest Champagne glass show for her last U.S. tour the Copper Coupe.
