5 Fabulous Questions with
Sheila Wolf
BURLESQUE DRAG BERLIN / PRODUCER VAUDEVILLE VARIETY REVUE
..
1. How long have you been performing and how did you get your start..
It all started with a good friend of mine, who was running the first Burlesque Troupe in Germany – The Teaserettes. As a man i always was addicted to Rockabilly in my life, and so I decided to use that style of pinup for my drag style too.
I first visited burlesque shows in Berlin, and loved what I saw. So 12 years ago ,my friend Sandy Beach, helped me with my first burlesque act. and it was such a huge step. After stepping out in drag – the next step was this, and it felt really amazing. It was like a colourful family, now I can say it was the most creative thing, I ever did in my life..
.
2. How have you developed as an artist from when you 1st started..
Ohh yes, I started to go to a lot of Festivals in Europe. I learned a lot of Burlesque and in 2011, iI produced my first Queerlesque Event in Berlin.
I tried to bring a huge variety of queer Burlesque Acts on stage. It was new and unique and we had a lot of fun together. After two years of celebrating these events, I decided to make it bigger and more mainstream.
I rented the biggest theaters, and tried to hire the most beautiful burlesque performers of the world. The concepts works, and is called Vaudeville Variety Burlesque Revue, with Stars like Immodesty Blaize, The Briefs, Kitten N Lou, Mr. Gorgeous, Lou Lou D’vil and many more.

3. Your costumes, hair & make up are incredible, do you create and make them yourself, and what is some costume advice for someone starting out ?
.
In the beginning I did a lot by myself, I still create all my looks by myself, and do almost all makeup myself too. Of course I need help with some things, for example I have amazing costume designers working with me on the ideas, and two wonderful hair designers. As for advice, I can say that it’s always important to invest time and money.
The best costumes are made with love and passion, you need to create something unique. It makes no sense to wear a cheap duplicate, or to rebuild an act from someone else. Find your own way, and use your experiences of life, to create a wonderful way of burlesque, and tell an interesting story.
.
4. What is your biggest personal achievements, or even fun stories you can share with us ?.
I am proud to produce one of the most successful Burlesque Cabaret Events in Berlin, … maybe in Germany in the last 5 years. The Vaudeville Variety Burlesque Revue is now 4 times a year, and it still growing.
The reputation around the globe is amazing, and that’s what makes me really proud. Also I am proud that the word has spread, about the respect, love and tolerance with my new baby…The first Boylesque Drag Festival in Berlin.
It was hard work to realize this, because I always want to pay respect to the work of Burlesque Performers, by paying the best fees I can do, and that was possible without asking for any application fees for my production.
I gave this money of the application fee to the homeless people of Berlin.
Inspired by the wonderful Jasques Patriaque I want to bring the idea of a totally queer Burlesque Festival to Germany, and I did. Sold out shows on two night’s and fantastic feedback. I couldn’t do that, without this unbelievable first line-up and my team. And I can’t wait to do it again in 2020. Thank you so much.
.
5. So for your fans, what exciting events have you coming up ?.
I am full of ideas. In 2018 I did a cooperation with a fantastic, new Burlesque troupe, – maybe with the best dancing skills I ever saw on stage, and installed a late night show at the famous Spiegel tent Bar jeder Vernunft in Berlin.
We still play this show every two months, and people come back two or three times. Next show will be August 31 and November 23and it’s called Hotel Gl’Amouresque.
Of course i will bring the most exciting lineup to berlin in September. Dirty Martini, Raquel Reed, Pearl Noire– together with the most talented Cirque du Soleil Artists, and the best Cabaret Singers, at the most historic Variete Wintergarten Berlin.
Also I will bring the Boylesque Drag Festival to Berlin in May 2020,and will re-animate Berlins Queer Ball Culture,by bringing the BERLINER TUNTENBALL to a venue called METROPOL. Google it .. its such a mind breaking project – I am soooo f****** excited.
